SJGT Juniors Conquer Carnoustie
Some of the SJGT’s younger players gathered at Carnoustie for their second event of the season at the weekend. Like the Level 4/5 event on the Burnside course the previous week, the Buddon course played extremely difficult with strong winds testing the players shot-making and course management skills but that didn’t stop all the players enjoying their game on Carnoustie‘s shortest course.
There were some phenomenal skills on display as the youngsters outwitted the forces of nature with some incredible golf. The scoring was so good that the course’s standard scratch, usually 66, was forced down to 65 even in the difficult, windy conditions.

In the under 12 category, Keith Bowman of St Andrews prevailed with a superb score of 74 to win by eight shots over Peebles’ Darren Howie who scored 82.
The under 13 section was won by Ronan Higgins again with a brilliant 74. The runner up spot was taken by Sharan Maiya with still a great score of 79.
Sharan Maiya also claimed the nett prize with a magnificent nett score of 63.
Sadly, Aidan Husenne, one of the Level 3s strongest players and winner of their first event, had an accident on his bike and is nursing a broken collar bone. Aidan has given away his stunt bike and is hoping to be back in action in about a month’s time!
Yet another successful event of the SJGT’s 2011/2012 season all the young golfers will be hoping to build on their solid start to the season and will be attempting to climb to the top of the order of merit.
