Background to Scottish Junior Golf Tour

The Scottish Junior Golf Tour arose from discussions amongst a group of parents of talented and aspiring young golfers who had met at various junior competitions over the last 2 or 3 years. These parents were keen to support their childrens golfing development to their utmost ability but with no clear framework in which to do it.

Most of the children had received technical coaching, were members of a local club and participated in various competitions throughout the summer at various golf clubs in Scotland . However, most of these competitions are purely under-18 competitions with no other age brackets; golf is the only sport that we were aware of that did not have different competitions for different age groups. In addition there are no opportunities in autumn, winter and spring for boys under 14 years.

At UK-wide competitions such as The HSBC Wee Wonders Tournament it became obvious that the English competitors were far more organised and better prepared for this type of highly competitive event than the Scottish contingent. They had many more year-round competitions and as a result had a more competitive edge to their game and were certainly more used to a high level of competition and the pressures that go with it. In the 12 years of this event there has never been a Scottish winner in the boys sections.

The parents had a desire to change this situation and worked together to organise some fun competitions across Scotland and so the Scottish Junior Golf Tour came into being.
